Sustainability is no longer a buzzword or a trend. The push towards sustainability and simplification of lifestyle has begun to enter the mainstream with the convergence of two trends: downsizing to smaller spaces and keeping items longer so they don’t end up in a landfill.
The need to have an Instagram-worthy closet has created an environment for online secondhand marketplaces and fashion rental services to thrive. These businesses are extending the life of an item while increasing consumers' access to fashion.
With the arrival of rental platforms, the access over ownership model is growing exponentially. ëCloset allows your customers to have affordable access to your items, while you keep ownership of your assets.
And, by using ëClean Advanced Fabricare for your apparel and accessory cleaning, ëCloset clients get the added value of our exclusive and superior cleaning program — at no extra charge!
Q: What is the optimum price point for apparel rental items?
A: In our experience any apparel item that is well made, durable, and has a (new) retail value of $400+ is a prime candidate for rental.
Q: What is the minimum volume required, if any, to start a rental business?
A: The ëCloset program is designed to help your rental business scale, even from zero sales! We charge a percentage of your rental sales to cover the costs of storage, fulfillment, cleaning and managing the details. Since the service scales with your sales, we remove both financial and fulfillment-related challenges and headaches, allowing you to focus on brand building.
Q: How does ëCloset determine the percentage to charge for their service?
A: We develop a custom pricing model for each client. The fee is based on many variables, but mostly includes receiving, PPS (pick, pack, ship), inspection, data inputs, cleaning & repair and inventory management. For example, some brands require special packing and presentation requirements that would be reflected in their fee. Our goal is to give our brand partners a net profit of 25% and be profitable from day one. We achieve this by carefully analyzing product mix and fulfillment requirements.
Q: What is the startup fee and what does it include?
A: We charge a one-time $25,000 fee, which includes integrating your brand into our production cycle, use and customization of the rental software, and all set-up expenses.
Q: As a brand, what is the #1 thing that will help me to achieve this “almost passive” rental revenue stream?
A: The best advice would be to add “marketing sauce” that emphasizes your commitment to being eco-responsible by furthering your commitment to your customers and to the planet!
Q: What are the costs associated with doing this on my own?
A: Here are the projected startup costs of an in-house set up versus using the ëCloset service:
